Son of Rambow


Just got back from a screening of "Son of Rambow," the latest film by Hammer and Tongs. It's a lovely little film about two kids who are inspired to make their own film after seeing First Blood. It's got everything you need in life: violence, animation, flying dogs, Sylvester Stallone, violence, the French and an kickin' 80s soundtrack. There's an amazing dream sequence that is pure Hammer and Tongs. Drawings come to life, children buff up to Rambo-esque proportions. Visual wizbang aside, the movie has genuine heart, I swear, old age is turning me into a teary fool. Something emotional happens in a movie (ex. Nerds are victorious...cue "We are the Champions"...) and I start getting all choked up. For animation buffs out there, look out for a cameo by Jan Pinkava. The movie comes out the same weekend as Iron Man. See this first...
